CANDLEMASS. Right. So what does that tell you? Epic Doom Metal. Exactly. If you think further you might find a band called ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA, which now is the connection to KRUX, a new band that features just Mr Edling, together with the former SWEDISH EROTICA and ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA singer Mats Levén and if you look at the song titles, you start to think what this is about. It definitely is Doom Metal, very heavy, not in the CANDLEMASS vein, but rather a little more modern, with some more distortion, sounding like a hybrid of "old" Doom of the BLACK SABBATH vein and ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA, together with Levén's voice, which would fit the description of "rough silk" almost perfectly. Easily digestible KRUX is not, some of the songs and passages require repeated listens to open up, another part of the Seventies' legacy in the sound of the Swedes, but if you are into really, really heavy music, then KRUX should be paradise for you. Superheavy guitars meet pounding rhythms, lots of distortion, still great melodies, accentuating keyboards and Leven's almost perfectly fitting voice, plus weird lyrics (and I mean really weird, just look at the song titles!), results in an album not for everyone, but with songs like "Krux", "Omfalos" or the 12 minutes epic "Lunochod" with spacey effects, lots of sound samples from space and stuff, but also the KRUX sound, chances are big that it might snatch you away from your every day life… So, to make it short, very heavy, pretty dark, haunting, good!
